La Barralière

The Region

Village of Tulette

The village of Tulette supplies all the necessities for an ideal Provençal holiday. There is a Monday morning market, several boulangeries and patisseries, an infamous local butcher who, in the French tradition, is also a caterer and offers a daily plat du jour for those who wish to eat magnificently but are not interested in preparing a big meal; a dry cleaners and a few cafés and small restaurants.

La Barralière is centrally located in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône wine region that produces such notable vintages as Enclave-des-Papes, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, and Beaumes-de-Venise. The regional vineyards all offer tastings throughout the day and many will also provide tours of the wine-making facilities.

Throughout the year, local markets, each with their own specialty, travel from town to town across the region. Visitors can peruse fresh, local produce under the market tents and sample farmers cheeses, olives, patés, sausages and breads, or select from Provencal fabrics, antiques and much more.

The surrounding towns of Avignon (50 minutes), Orange (20 minutes), and Vaison-la-Romaine offer wonderful sightseeing including Roman ruins, and during summer evenings, concerts are performed in nearby towns and villages. Avignon hosts a world-renowned theater festival in July at the Palais des Papes and all over town. Orange is host to a well known opera and concert season in its large, famous open-air amphitheater during the summer months. Vaison-la-Romaine hosts a dance festival in July in its Roman amphitheater.

In cooler weather much of the same is available as well as the pleasures of wining and dining in comfort, watching a video, and truly relaxing in comfort away from the daily stress of city life.

The village of Tulette hosts a magnificent public swimming pool, bicycles for rent, as well as tennis courts and horseback riding. For the sportier, world class rock climbing can be found at the nearby Dentelles de Montmirail Mountains, while on the famous white-topped Mont Ventoux hiking, exploring, and cycling can all be found. The Mediterranean coastal towns and beaches of Cassis and Marseille and the Camargue are within an hour and a half's drive of the house. Also within easy reach of La Barralière are the Pont du Gard featuring a world renown Roman Aqueduct, the especially charming town of Aix en Provence and the Ardèche-famous for its spectacularly deep gorge and the Pont D'Arc, and world class canoeing and hiking.
